EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA

Once a light industrial space, this 1960s-era cinder block structure has been transformed to function as a space to inspire creativity and problem solving.

Natural daylight saturates the interior and nearly all walls have been removed, creating an open, democratic environment. The concrete floor was stripped and waxed to a matte finish and select walls were highlighted with color.  Exposed ductwork and a parallam beam spanning the space between exposed steel columns reflect the building's industrial roots while the diaphanous hanging light fixtures and Herman Miller furniture ground it in its current incarnation.

RKA also completed the interior design for VNYL, a start-up music company,  that occupies the adjacent office within the building.
